Head of the Fish 2025

On Saturday, October 25th, the Aggies traveled to Saratoga Springs, New York, to compete in the Head of the Fish Regatta. The Aggies completed with 12 boats. These entries consisted of: Men's Open 1x (2 entries), Men's Collegiate 2x (2 entries), Mens Collegiate/Open 2- (1 entry), Mens Collegiate/Open 4x (1 entry), Mens Collegiate 4+ (2 entries), Mens Collegiate 8+ (1 entry), Mens Collegiate 2V 8+ (1 entry), and Mens Collegiate Novice 8+ (2 entries). The day started off cold and with a slight wind, picking up as the day went by.

The first event of the day was the Men’s Collegiate Singles, where Luke Shamaly and Anders Borger competed. They placed 29th and 24th out of 31 respectively.

The next event was the Men’s Collegiate Double. Luka Lasic (stroke) and Zachary Kirchner (bow) raced to a silver medal finish. And Augustus Elam (stroke) and West Williams (bow) finished 7th. 

The first sweeping event for the day was the Men’s Collegiate/Open Pair. The Aggies had one boat entered in this race with Matthew Lavoie (stroke) and Daniel Smith (bow). They placed 6th out of 10.

The Aggies then moved back to sculing for the last sculling event of the day, the Men’s Collegiate/Open Quad. The boat consisted of Marcus Larsson (stroke), Graham Schwendt (3), Ryan Tessitore (2), and Anders Borger (bow). They placed 5th out of 10. 

The team then moved over to the coxed boats, where the Aggies raced two boats in the Men’s Collegiate 4+ event. The first of which had Daniel Smith (stroke), Luka Lasic (3), Luke Shamaly (2), Matthew Lavoie (bow), and Mitchell Cruz (C). They raced to an 8th place finish in this competative race with 22 competators. The second boat consisted of Ryan Tessitore (stroke), Ryan Greenwood (3), Jason Miska (2), Marcus Larsson (bow), and Skyler Ellis (C). They placed 15th. 

The next event was the Men's Collegiate Novice 8+. The Aggies fielded two boats in this event. The first Novice 8+ was comprised of Jihwan Yu (stroke), Hector Munoz (7), Parker Cole (6), Marcus Rooney (5), Sam Haynes (4), Jonas Reid (3), Ben Marshall (2), Josh Mastromatteo (bow), and Oumniya Benalia (C). They finished strong with a silver medal win. The second Novice 8+ contained Sage Arias (stroke), Shane Lomascolo (7), Kiyan Zayed (6), Eduardo Suarez (5), Ryan Perry (4), Arya Shah (3), Shane Hess (2), Derrick Chung (bow), and Bryce Cioffi (C).

The next event was the Mens Collegiate Varsity 8+. This boat consisted of Daniel Smith (stroke), Luka Lasic (7), Luke Shamaly (6), Matthew Lavoie (5), Zachary Kirchner (4), Ryan Greenwood (3), Ryan Tessitore (2), Anders Borger (bow), and Jonathon Shi (C). They raced strong to a fifth place finish.

The last event of the day for the Aggies was the Mens Collegiate Second Varsity 8+. This boat was comprised of Graham Schwendt (stroke), Marcus Larsson (7), Parker Cole (6), Hector Munoz (5), Jason Miska (4), Augustus Elam (3), Edward Keen (2), West Williams (bow), and Chad Zannotti (C). They came to a sixth place finish. 

The Head of the Fish Regatta marked the end of the Aggies’ fall racing season, as the team now transitions indoors with the colder weather. Thank you to everyone who cheered on and supported the Aggies throughout all of the fall season. We look forward to the continued support this coming spring!
