Fish Closes Fall Season for Aggies

UMass concluded their fall campaign at the Head of the Fish Saturday, competing five eights deep across three events, along with the entire 2V and half the 3V doubling up in fours. Weather in Saratoga was favorable throughout the day as it warmed up into the mid-50’s by the afternoon while there was a slight tailwind on the course for each race.

In the novice 8 event, two UMass novice eights made their collegiate debuts against stiff competition. The first novice eight finished sixth in a 11:37.62 finish, while the 2N placed 13th in the same event with a time of 12:34.97.

Shortly after in the collegiate 4+, UMass’s “A” four finished their course in a solid 11:47.44 mark for eighth out of 32 crews. Meanwhile, the “C” four secured 16th with a 12:17.14 time and the “B” finished 22nd in 12:40.68.

Later in the afternoon, the varsity eight took the course and barely missed out on a podium finish in the 1V eight event. The Aggies trailed Colgate by just three-tenths of a second, earning fourth in a 10:09.46 finish.

Rounding things out for the Aggies was the second and third varsity eights, each racing in the 2V eight category. The former posted a 10:45.42 for fifth-place while the latter snagged tenth with a finish of 11:42.37.

UMass will now stay on the water for one more week before taking the remainder of the semester off. The Aggies won’t see action against other crews until the start of the spring season next year.
